Here's a scene from my first screenplay, Sisters Again. These are my "friends" Maxie and Charlotte that I got to know oh so well. I am sure to never forget about them. This scene takes place within the first twenty pages of the script.
EXT. FENWAY PARK -- AFTERNOON
Stan and Charlotte sit at a Red Sox game. They stand up and cheer just as Manny Ramirez clocks one out of the park.
STAN
That had to have landed on the Pike!
Stan and Charlotte high five each other and cheer. The crowd quiets and everyone finally sits back down only to reveal none other than Maxie standing at the end of their aisle.
Stan motions for Maxie to come over.
CHARLOTTE
There goes Nomar with that annoying
glove ritual... what is she doing here?
Charlotte stands up. A bunch of men yell at her to sit down.
Stan smiles towards Maxie but his attention is quickly grabbed by his angry other daughter.
CHARLOTTE
Dad. Why can't you just butt out?
How many times have I told you that
you have no control getting me and...
her... together? The fact we're sisters
is just a... technicality.
STAN
Charlotte honey, sit down and
enjoy the game, will ya? Be nice.
(to himself)
It's my birthday, for Christ's sake.
While Charlotte talks, Maxie turns to the attractive man sitting next to her and starts rambling. The guy nods and continues to watch the game.
MAXIE
We had a falling out a few years
ago. She just can't get over what
happened.
MAN AT GAME
Uh huh.
MAXIE
I've tried to apologize.
The crowd goes wild as David Ortiz hits a double.
MAN AT GAME
(screams toward the field)
Run you mother fu...
MAXIE
And my Dad's all involved.
Everyone jumps up in excitement including the man who sits next to Maxie. Even as he's standing, Maxie continues to talk at eye level, which is now his nice firm ass.
MAXIE (CONT'D)
Thinks he'll create world peace
by reuniting his daughters.
This whole time Charlotte yells over the cries of the fans.
CHARLOTTE
It is going to take so much more
than your stupid little surprises
to make me have any respect for
HER again!
STAN
Charlotte. Sit down. Please try.
For me.
CHARLOTTE
I can't. Sorry Dad. Happy birthday.
Charlotte gets up and squeezes past everyone in her aisle.
She runs down the steps just as a huge beach ball bounces off a railing and whacks her in the head. She grabs the ball and everyone cheers. Charlotte squeezes the beach ball until it pops. She runs off under the grandstands as the crowd boos.
Stan's eyes move back to the game. He looks defeated. It's relatively quiet except for bits and pieces of Maxie's persistent conversation with the man next to her.
MAXIE
Did you see that? So typical.
The man gestures one finger to the hot dog vendor.
Stan turns his head over to Maxie and stares. He shakes his head as she continues babbling to the oblivious man.
MAXIE
God she just has to run away from
everything! It's time she just move
on and face reality.
Stan turns back to the game in silence.
MAN AT GAME
(yells with his mouth full)
You asshole that was a good pitch!
Why the hell didn't you swing,
mother fu...
